The Bach Children's Chorus
Rochester's Traditional Music Ensemble for Children Age 8-16
The Bach Children's Chorus is western New York's most respected children's classical music ensemble. The chorus appears regularly with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, Mercury Opera Rochester, and other area ensembles. The girls and boys in the group range in age from 8 to 16. and are known in Rochester's arts community as the best young singers in the area.
The BCC selects its members through rigorous audition each spring. Their repertoire consists of classical and folk music in many languages from the 18th through the 21st centuries. The children meet weekly for rehearsals throughout the academic year.
In addition to a busy concert schedule, the BCC is in demand for special performances for corporate and civic special events. Plus, each spring, the group tours to a prominent location for performances: Recent venues have included St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. In May of 2009, the children will sing at Montreal's Notre Dame Basilica.
The BCC was founded by its current director, Karla Krogstad, in 1989. The Chorus moved to its current residence at Nazareth College in 2001. Over 1300 students have sung in the BCC.
