BCC Good Practices and Rules for Kids

Information on uniforms, the BCC organization, and the schedule are all accessible from the links above and on the Parents' Central page. This page offers some advice and some insight into the give-and-take that goes with performing with BCC.

Good Practices

Keep in shape, stay out of trouble, hold up your end... here are some rules of thumb and ways to succeed.

  1. Listen to the tapes, practice the pronunciation, and hum along even before you know the words.
  2. Remember that you are not alone. Lots of kids are practicing just like you all over the 5 counties around Rochester.
  3. Talk to your parents about any problems you are having. Ask them to contact the person at EBCC who can help if they can't do it themselves.
  4. When you're feeling like you're the best, try not to crow. When you're feeling like you're the worst, try not to cry. Both extremes are likely to be temporary.
  5. Don't wear tight clothes when you practice.
  6. Be kind to your voice when you are not singing. Try not to yell a lot. Drink warm tea when your throat is scratchy.
  7. Remember that your family has to listen to your practice. Try to practice at a time that is not too disturbing, and in a room where you can shut the door.
  8. If you're having trouble with the pronunciation or the timing, write notes to yourself on your music.
  9. Keep your music, pronunciation guides, Tapes and schedules all in a set place where you can FIND them.
  10. Be proud! You accepted a challenge and you're working to succeed.

BCC has real rules and policies. You accept the responsibilites that come with the pleasures of performing when you join BCC. Practicing, showing up on time for rehearsals, having your uniform ready for performances, getting to PERFORMANCES on time, and helping to raise funds are all part of your job.

The chorus management has responsibilities, too. The audiences are expecting a wonderful experience, and the BCC has a great reputation to uphold. The director and other adults accept the tasks of keeping the organization running smoothly. And there are policies to ensure that kids are treated fairly and that necessary rules are enforced even-handedly.

Did you lose your copy of the BCC handbook? Send email to the webmaster (the link is at page bottom) and type "Send me another handbook" in the subject line. Type your name in the message area. A handbook will be sent to the mail address which you gave at registration (unless you specify another address).
